I've had a guitar since the age of seven, but didn't go beyond basic chords and noodling (with no tools but my ears) until I was about fourteen or fifteen. Since then, I've been developing a style that, while rooted strongly in blues, also has traces of jazz, metal, classical, and, well, a bunch of things. Comparisons have been made to Robby Krieger, Mike Bloomfield, Angus Young, and Jimmy Page, amongst others. In terms of bass, I'm no Jaco or Flea, but my playing isn't exactly a boring root-note-a-thon. I incorporate simple arpeggios, scalar runs (pentatonic, naturals, hungarian minor, harmonic minor), and natural harmonics into my basslines. My fingers aren't incredibly fast nor can I slap well, but rest assured that things are kept interesting when I'm on the low end. My lyrics tend to go in one of three directions: straight-up blues, love songs, and quasi-psychedelic what-the-hell. Comparisons have been made to Ben Kweller, Jeff Buckley, Conor Oberst, Pete Yorn, and the crazy collective that put words to the music of King Crimson. Vocally, I'd call my range that of a "baritenor." My forte is softer singing like that in King Crimson's "I Talk To The Wind," but I'm steadily improving my belting. No screams from these vocal cords, though; the roughest I get is a slightly gritty blues/rock voice that I'm still working on. Comparisons have been made to Pete Yorn, Layne Staley, George Harrison, and on one uberlucky occasion, Jeff Buckley.
